Battling the Blahg
A few days ago, Jeffrey Zeldman wrote a wonderful blog post on the malaise of blogging when there’s so much more to do. Do go and read it before reading the rest of this post, it is quite telling when such an influential individual starts to question all the hype.
When I started blogging in 2000, the blogosphere was still nascent and I was all gung-ho to post almost every day. Since then I’ve had my waves of ups and downs, but I’ve remained pretty steady with my enthusiasm for blogging as a form of media that was well suited to my daily life
Until now. Recently, as you may have noticed, the dedication I’ve put into my personal blog has waned as I’ve moved out of school and into the workplace and started pursuing interests in other parts of the web. It’s not that I’ve become jaded with blogging — after all, I do spend a considerable amoung of time over at blogTO — but I’ve realized that my creative efforts are perhaps better used in other endeavours rather than trying to keep Wholesome Goodness updated every day.
Keeping that thought in the forefront of my design process, I’ve tried to figure out how to still allow for creative output and sporadic commentatry in the design of my new website (I’ve bought the domain eloquation.com but there’s nothing up there yet) while still making sure it doesn’t feel stale if updates are infrequent. I’m still in the early iterative stages for the design, but I do hope to go live by the end of the month or early November. I’ll give you a heads up here when I do.
Oh, and if there are any of you out there who are pretty good at Wordpress templating and are willing to help me out in exchange for a home-cooked meal, I’d be much obliged.
