Hullo there!

I Tell Stories is a weblog by me, Sameer Vasta, a storyteller and web junkie in Toronto.

I write about technology, pop culture, urban living, design, and all sorts of other interesting things that pass my way. I also share quite a few links on the site every Friday.

This blog has existed (in some incarnation) since June 10, 1996. Sadly, I’ve only been able to find and restore my archives since 2005. Feel free to take a look through them if you’re looking for anything in particular.

About the design.

This site was designed by Alistair Morton at Peapod Studios, and the theme was built by Martin Kuplens-Ewart at Apolitic. The quality of their work blew me away, and they’re both super talented. Hire them.

I hate web hosts almost as much as I hate onions. I really detest onions. Luckily, this site is hosted by Fused Network — a company that took my web-host-hating in stride and helped me make this all happen. I still hate web hosts, but I don’t hate Fused Network. That’s saying a lot.

(For those of you keeping track, my list of things I hate only has three items total: onions, web hosts, and overly-starchy dress shirts. I pretty much love everything else.)

About my writing.

I try and keep things pretty relaxed over here on I Tell Stories. If you notice a typo or a glaring error, please let me know. I’ll fix it. And I won’t feel bad; instead, I’ll thank you for your help.

You can find out more about who I am and what I do on my main about page. I’ll have my main about page up and ready for your perusal soon, I promise!

Here’s a few facts about me you probably already knew:

  • I studied anthropology in school, and think it’s one of the best subjects anyone interested in the web and community-building could ever take.
  • I’m incredibly fond of chick peas, cheese, tilapia, eggs, and grapefruit juice. Not all together of course, unless you’ve got some secret recipe that I don’t know about.
  • My biggest goal in life is to make one person smile every single day. Yes, it’s corny. Don’t laugh. Actually, do laugh — at least it made you smile.
  • I can admit it: I love romantic comedies. Don’t pretend to be shocked. You know you love them too.
  • Current celebrity crushes: Jennifer Connolly, Zooey Deschanel, Alicia Keys, Michelle Trachtenberg, Kristen Bell, Amanda Bynes, Michelle Branch. The list grows daily.
  • Reading Alain de Botton, J.D. Salinger, and Jhumpa Lahiri makes me happy. I prefer short stories to novels, non-fiction to fiction, and magazines to books.
  • I work with organizations to help them tell and hear stories — to help them communicate with the world using engaging content and exciting narrative on the web.
