great list of books, im a current lit student looking for inspiration and this really helps!

id like to add one ive discovered more recently, Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Amazing read, id recommend it to anyone who hasnt read it before.

Hey Rubal, not sure why you put my name in apostrophes, but I assure you it is, in fact, Sameer, and not just something I’m making up. So next time, you can drop the apostrophes, okay? Thanks! Those are great tips you shared. I think I’m okay with my reading habits, but I’m sure they’ll come in handy for some other readers. Thanks again.

Oh, and thanks Bhaskaran! Of course, nobody assumes this is a definitive list: it’s just one person’s opinion, and I thought it would be a fun exercise to do, that’s all. Here’s another similar exercise I did as well: http://itellstories.org/2007/04/17/100-best-books-since-1982/

Again, I don’t necessarily agree with all the inclusions on any list, but I think these lists are all valuable if they encourage people to read, in general.

This list is highly skewed towards older books which cannot be read by modern readers, these books are high on prose.Please try to include more modern novelists who are lucid and highly entertaining.

The whole point of fiction of is fun and talented fictional writers present facts with painstaking research and weave a wonderful story. This list has a glaring hole by the absence of Frederick Forsyth, Robert Ludlum, John le Carre,… OMG…. Michael Crichton!!

Talking about lists, the above Kottke’s link has serious flaws…..atleast in absence of great novelists.
This below link from the Gaurdian is far balanced and equally appeals to old and modern readers. And the list pays respect to every great writer.
Everybody must surely check this out

I would like you all to check out “Fountainhead” written by “Ayn Rand”. It’s one of those amazing books i have read, for which i can say “must read for those who read”.

And for you ’ Sameer ’ and all those who need a tip to read,

>Read according to your taste(after reading 3-5 books you will know what your taste is)

>While reading try to get in the characters, you will really enjoy then

>Read in a calm atmosphere

>Don’t rush through the pages and also don’t take months to complete a book(if u will read an unfinished book after long time u will loose the track nd d exact mood of the track)

>Don’t read pirated copies ( this all beautiful books will keep on coming then )

Go on readers this whole world and many lives can be experienced by the books.

I would have to suggest the Ranger’s Apprentice series by John Flanagan it is really good with a good plot

Wow, you’re right, I’m surprised there’s no Harry Potter on that list. That’s definitely an egregious omission.
