I attended a lot of weddings last year, and I’ve been privy to some of the bridal activity immediately before the ceremony.
Those of you who haven’t had someone close to you get married will be extremely surprised by the amount of burgers, hot dogs, Red Bulls and Diet Cokes that is consumed on an average wedding day.
I guess it’s natural: weddings are stressful events, and on stressful days, we revert to foods that are not just comforting, but releasing. You may not enjoy a hot dog regularly, but scarfing one down before you get married is like committing a small, naughty transgression on a day where everything needs to fall in place and be perfect.
A bit like “letting yourself go” and “living life,” before letting yourself “go and live life.”

When my friend got married here in St. John’s, we had an hour to kill before the ceremony as she was ready early (!) So off we went to Tim Horton’s where she whipped out her little flask and a couple of Irish coffees to take the edge off… :) Love the new design, it is so nice!
I love the redesign!
And I think you stated “the way of the wedding” perfectly in your last sentence.
hey Vasta!
Love the picture and this new design is really cool!
enjoy 2009!
Sameer, the new site is lovely!
Pre-wedding ritual is fascinating - can’t wait to be part of it when my little sisters are married off (thrice a bridesmaid, lucky me!)
Happy New Year! Agreed - nice redesign.
I’m getting married this summer…I’ll let you know what crazy pre-wedding binge rituals I end up engaging in! :-)
Thanks everyone, glad you like the new look! Mucho kudos to Peapod and Apolitic, the people that made it all happen.
Naveen, you’re getting married this summer? Soooo exciting! Can’t wait to hear all about it — I’m a huge fan of weddings.
Amrita, I think a flask is a necessary instrument at all weddings. You know, get the stress off a little. =)
Maria, being a bridesmaid must be fun. I’d love to be a bridesmaid someday, but sadly my gender makes it a bit difficult.
Like the new look, Sameer. And what a great first post!
My wedding was something I’ll never forget. I often comment to my beautiful bride that I’d love to repeat the wedding (with her by my side, of course) … although perhaps I’ll suggest she take along a few hot dogs for round two.
Cheers!
Sameer, you can be one of my bride’s men. at the rate i’m losing girl friends and gaining guy friends, you won’t be alone either.
and you don’t even have to wear matching ties either. i promise.
Chris, I’ve heard that second weddings (with the same person, of course) are wonderful! Less stress, but all the fun. Let me know if you ever do repeat it!
Aw Kate, but wearing matching ties is the part of the whole appeal! (Can it have purple in it? Purple is my favorite color.)
sure. as long as it’s a strong colour i’m fine. i’m thinking a dark purple, like a plum. it could be a tribute to my Alma mater. although we are gettinga little ahead of ourselves ….
and i’m thinking ice cream before the ceremony. i suggested we pick some up, to a friend (the bride) when we were getting into the car to go to the church, but she didn’t find the humour in my comment.
Belgian chocolate ice cream? Nice!
So when’s your wedding? I need to start dieting to fit into my tux. =)
you have lots of time to fit into your suit. trust me.
and definitely belgian chocolate, with fresh strawberries in a waffle cone. makes me hungry just thinking about it.
Scotch! Yes, scotch is needed. And some form of dead animal.
You’re on, Tash. :D
Were you indulging in junk food on your wedding day?
