Tyler Brûlé has dedicated himself to the pursuit of value and quality. It’s not enough that he creates things that are popular: he creates things that surpass expectations and pushes the boundaries of the status quo. Tyler Brûlé’s two major magazines, Wallpaper and Monocle, remain two of my favorite publications of all time because of their design aesthetic, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
Today, I want to thank Tyler Brûlé for being inspirational.
There are very few people in the world that have the same insight, same passion for excellence, and same eloquence as Tyler Brûlé. His ability to articulate the hidden beauty in everyday details is unsurpassed, and serves as a model for all aspiring writers. Aspiring writers like me. I strongly encourage you all to check out Tyler Brûlé’s fantastic weekly podcast, The Monocle Weekly and his wonderfully-written regular column in the Financial Times. They have been, and continue to be, and inspiration to me.
Every Sunday for the next little while, I’ll be writing one or two paragraphs about people that inspire me as a kind of thank you for making me want to do and be better. Who inspires you?
For me, it’s the people around me. Not so much as examples of inspiration but as inspirations in themselves. So when I look at my son i don’t get inspired by what he does. I get inspired because of who he is and who I am in relation to him. People like him make me WANT to BE better.
Definitely understand what you mean Karim — and I’m glad to have certain such people in my life. I’m inspired by so many people every day. This Sunday exercise is just a way for me to point out a few of the key people that I hold in a certain regard whose actions have inspired me to do more. Really interesting exercise actually, been learning a lot about myself and what I want to be by doing it.
Say hullo to Kahzmir for me!
